masking is age-old technique in image editing software. But the fact is
how it managed to survive in spite of tremendous growth in digital
image manipulations? The answer is designers kept updating the usage of
image masking.
One
of the many uses of image masking is removing an object from the photo.
Now, this process starts by using the quick select tool. Advanced
versions of Photoshop are user friendly and help them identifying the
object borders intelligently. Refine edge feature will work next in

blending, create two layers containing objects to be blended. Now select
on the top layer and click on the image mask icon in the layer palette.
Using the gray and white gradient to a required level and drag it over
the top layer. The masking will be controlled by the gradient. The end
product after the masking is just the finest possible blend of two
objects into a single photograph.
Masking
is not only possible in RGB images. It is also possible with one
colored and one gray scale image. To obtain this, place the colored
image in the top layer and gray scale at the bottom layer. Follow the
same procedure to get the gray part contribute to the visible portions
of the colored image and the black portion contribute to the hidden part
of the image.
There
are two kinds of masking, layer masking and vector masking. Both do not
very much outputs however differ in the way they are worked upon.
Vector masking is much cleaner and distinct. Pen tool, shape tool or
path selection tool is used for vector masking. Layer masking is quick and can be done for a large area of image instantly. Layer mask icon is used to create layer masking.
